Practice Highlights
The neurosurgery program is a comprehensive program that evaluates and treats patients with cranial, spinal, and peripheral nerve disorders. The administration is very supportive and dedicated to the growth of neurosurgery. The new hire will be charged with continuing growth in an already expanding spine-focused practice. The candidate will spend 80-90% of their time at a regional hospital, providing inpatient, outpatient, and operative room care to the patients of the local community. Most procedures performed at the regional hospital are elective spinal procedures. The candidate would have the ability to bring cranial and more complex spine cases to the flagship medical center.
Currently there are no neurosurgical resident physicians at the regional hospital, although many other residencies, including general surgery, rotate through this hospital. Inpatient, outpatient, and operative assistance is provided by two dedicated neurosurgical physician assistants. The inpatient service involves intensive care and floor level patients in addition to emergency room and off-service consultations, including a Level III Trauma Center. This candidate will also participate in the shared call pool at an academic Level I Trauma Center, to both foster intradepartmental relationship building and maintain cranial skills.
The primary admitting hospital has dedicated neurosurgical scrub techs, circulating nurses, C-arms, Jackson Tables, Wilson Frames, Mayfields, and Leica Surgical Microscopes. Spinal Navigation and Robotics are currently being budgeted for. Involvement in academic pursuits such as teaching of medical students/residents, attending academic conferences, and/or research can be supported although are not a requirement of this position. Anticipated first year volume of approximately 125 cases and 250+ once established.
