Academic Functional Opportunity at a Charming Southern University

A leading academic and tertiary referral center in the South is seeking a functional-trained neurosurgeon with interests in research to join their nationally recognized program. 30-50% of research protected time is available. Both new graduates and those with experience are encouraged to apply.

Mentorship is readily available under the aegis of the program's esteemed Chairman. A directorship is available for the right candidate.

This is a nine-hospital health system. The department is looking to expand their academic footprint, seeking a research scientist with interests in resident and fellow education. A lab package is available.

The new hire will primarily admit to a nearly-500-bed comprehensive stroke designated center. The medical center is an internationally renowned, high-tech tertiary referral center. Cases may also be performed at a hospital with the region’s only Level I Trauma Center that is also CSC designated.

In addition to an outstanding clinical Neurosurgical Division, the Department has two additional divisions of international reputation – Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the Spinal Cord Injury Research Center. The faculty in these divisions is partially supported by 13 endowed chairs and has a combined research budget of $11.5 million, funded by both NIH and private philanthropy.

• A well-rounded mix of functional cases is available including trigeminal neuralgia, DBS, epilepsy, and other movement-disorder-related conditions
• Two movement disorders neurologists and four epileptologists on staff plus three referring epileptologists from an outside system in the area
• Globus robot with stereotactic capabilities, STarFix frame, Visualase and Monteris laser ablation systems on site
• A CAST approved functional fellowship exists
• Collaborative relationship with the neurobiology department for neuromodulation
• Newly established Brain and Spine Institute fostering collaboration and seamless continuum of care among related departments
