Director of Epilepsy and Functional Neurosurgery Wanted in Major Mid-Atlantic City

A prestigious Mid-Atlantic university is recruiting the next Director of its Epilepsy and Functional Neurosurgery Program. The recruitment aligns with the accelerating integration of the university's medical resources, linking care networks across a growing statewide academic healthcare system, and the university's research enterprise, encompassing Neurosciences, Bioengineering, Genome Sciences, Pharmaceutical, Addiction Medicine, and Health Computing.

The recruited leader will have a primary faculty appointment in the Department of Neurosurgery, have secondary appointments in appropriate interrelated departments, and report academically to the Department of Neurosurgery Chair. The Director will also have programmatic relations with the Epilepsy Program and the Movement Disorders Program in Neurology, and the interdepartmental Focused Ultrasound Center of Excellence. The new hire will work closely with Neuroscience Network Directors to expand and advance epilepsy and movement disorders clinical services and related programs, trials, educational opportunities, and translational discovery-based research within the university and medical system.

This recruited leader is expected to provide visionary leadership across multiple disciplines, build upon the success of established clinical and research programs, and increase the impact and reputation of the program nationally and internationally.

The ideal candidate will foster the following:
• Specialized Expertise: This individual will have extensive clinical experience in treating patients with epilepsy and movement disorders, conducting independent research, and developing innovative treatment protocols across multi-disciplinary teams and environments.
• Discovery Research: A demonstrated, consistent record as a principal investigator and collaborator on federally- and/or industry-funded research initiatives with high-impact publications. The candidate will have a record of accomplishments in securing extramural grants and/or industry funding.
• Clinical Excellence: Align multi-disciplinary clinical practices with the latest evidence-based guidelines and therapies and lead initiatives for system wide and regional expansion through the university's Neuroscience Network.
• Educational Leadership: The director will play a pivotal role in recruiting, training, and mentoring clinical and research faculty, medical students, residents, and fellows in disciplines related to the surgical management of epilepsy and movement disorders.
• Interdisciplinary Collaboration: The director must be able to facilitate collaboration among multiple disciplines (neurosurgery, radiology, epilepsy neurology, movement disorders neurology, pathology, and others), fostering a team-based approach to patient care and research.
• Community and Patient Engagement: The individual will be a statewide figure of prominence, serving as a liaison between the medical school, community, and statewide/national advocacy organizations (e.g., American Epilepsy Society, American Society of Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgeons) raising awareness and engaging patients, caregivers, and families in program initiatives.

The new hire will primarily admit to the Level I flagship hospital of the university network, which has nearly 800 beds. The hospital provides state-of-the-art equipment with dedicated Neuro ICU beds. It is consistently named among the best in its region in a variety of disciplines.

• 1:5 call schedule, with residents taking first call
• Significant outmigration to be captured; expected case volume around 100 first year and up to 200 by year three
