Academic Skull Base Opportunity with Renowned Southern Medical Center

The neurosurgery department at a prestigious Southern medical center is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate neurosurgeon with specialization in endoscopic skull base surgery to join their dynamic team and contribute to their mission of delivering the highest quality care to their patients. Job Summary:

The desired faculty member will play a pivotal role in the skull base surgery practice. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in an academic environment, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of experts and engaging in cutting-edge research and education while utilizing state-of-the-art techniques and equipment including endoscopy, intraoperative MRI, laser interstitial therapy and Varian Edge stereotactic radiosurgery technology.

The strength of the surgical team is augmented by an extremely close collaborative working environment with partners in Otolaryngology, Radiation Oncology, Neuro-Oncology, Endocrinology, Medical Oncology and others.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Patient Care:
• Neurosurgical pituitary disorders clinic
◦ Join the endocrinology team in weekly Neurosurgical Pituitary Disorders Clinic where evaluation and management plans for pituitary patients are developed
◦ Perform complex neurosurgical procedures for treatment of such patients
◦ Monitor and follow up on patient progress both in inpatient and outpatient settings
• Non-pituitary skull base program
◦ Participate actively in monthly skull base conferences with multidisciplinary team
◦ Work collaboratively with neurosurgical and otolaryngology partners to care for patients with meningiomas, Schwannoma chordomas, chondrosarcomas, metastasis, and other pathologies involving the skull base

2. Research:
• Engage in clinical and translational laboratory research related to pituitary tumors and other skull base pathologies
• Collaborate with other researchers and contribute to ongoing research projects within the department
• Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences

3. Education:
• Educate and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows in neurosurgery as well as graduate student and/or post-doctoral researchers
• Participate in didactic and clinical teaching activities
• Work with neurosurgical and otolaryngology partners to promote the education of trainees in surgical approaches to skull base pathologies and relevant anatomy related to these approaches. Provide training labs for residents and outside physicians
• Stay updated with the latest advancements in the field and share knowledge with colleagues

4. Collaboration:
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including neurologists, radiation oncologists, otolaryngologists, neuroradiologists, neuropsychologists, and other healthcare professionals, to provide comprehensive care to patients
• Participate in case conferences and tumor boards to discuss complex cases

Qualifications:
• Medical degree (MD or equivalent) and board-eligible or board-certified in neurosurgery
• Fellowship training in endoscopic skull base surgery
• Strong commitment to patient-centered care, research, and education in a team-based environment
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• A record of scholarly activity, including publications and research contributions, is preferred
