Midwest Academic Program Seeking Spine-Focused Neurosurgeon for Busy Affiliated Hospital

A University Health System is seeking a spine-focused neurosurgeon to join their community hospital practice in the nearby western suburbs. This is a busy clinical position with a faculty appointment at the University Department of Neurological Surgery, and the position offers the opportunity to build a busy, elective spine focused practice with terrific support from the local hospital and backing from the main campus that includes 15 additional faculty members.

The community hospital is a 170+ bed medical center and the only hospital in the city. The hospital’s stroke program is consistently recognized for its excellence, and the facility is a Magnet with Distinction hospital, demonstrating its commitment to excellence in patient care.

Practice Highlights:
• ~150 cases the first year, 250+ once established
• Strong referring relationship with primary care, orthopedics, pain, and PM&R
• Case mix of ~80% spine and 20% cranial
• No call requirements at community hospital. Call at main campus 2 days/month and local VA is an additional 2 days/month
• Residents and APP’s assist with first call
• Collaborative research and resident teaching opportunities; potential for eventual spine fellow rotation
• Large referral network and busy ER
• Marketing team and physician liaison to help the new neurosurgeon establish, keep, and grow important relationships with referral network
• Brand new OR built and Block time available
• O-arm available
• Significant support for new hire provided by university faculty and administration
• Highly competitive starting salary including base salary, VA compensation, wRVU productivity bonus, and quality bonuses

This position is based in a quaint town only a 30-minute drive from a large Midwestern city, affording physicians the opportunity for a reverse commute if desired. The town is especially family-friendly, with great schools, libraries, green spaces, and community.
