IONM Faculty Opportunity at University Hospital in Pittsburgh

A well-known academic medical center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is seeking a Neurophysiologist specializing in Intraoperative Neuromonitoring (IONM) to join their main academic medical center faculty. Also welcomed are candidates with interests in EEG, EMG, epilepsy, or neuromuscular medicine who are open to developing expertise in intraoperative monitoring.

Candidates will provide intraoperative monitoring at satellite hospitals through a combination of in-person (academic medical center) and telemedicine (community hospital). Common monitoring techniques include SSEP, TcMEP, BSER, EEG, EMG, and ECOG during neurosurgical, orthopedic, ENT, vascular, cardiac, and neurointerventional radiology procedures across adult and pediatric tertiary care hospitals.

• Flexible Practice Options: Focus exclusively on IONM, with an option to support a limited practice in epilepsy/EEG or neuromuscular/EMG components
• Telemonitoring Flexibility: Opportunities for select remote monitoring days and evening and weekend call coverage from home to enhance work-life balance
• Fellowship Training Available: 1-year IONM Fellowship program (non-ACGME accredited) with transition to faculty appointment highly encouraged
• Robust Support Model: Always 2 neurophysiologists monitoring each case simultaneously, allowing for flexible scheduling and minimizing burnout
• Shared Call Rotation: 1:5 weeknights and weekends, with most call duties performed remotely
• Academic and Research Opportunities:
o Medical student and resident education across Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Anesthesiology programs.
o Mentorship and teaching of IONM technologists and Clinical Neurophysiology fellows
o Participation in clinical research initiatives in neuromonitoring outcomes and innovation, with support for conference presentations and publications
