Senior Physician Recruiter - Retained Search

The Senior Physician Recruiter is responsible for both business development and full-cycle physician recruitment, building lasting relationships with healthcare organizations within an assigned territory. Success in this role requires strong communication skills, critical thinking, resilience, relationship-building ability, and a results-driven mindset.
Key Responsibilities
Recruitment & Candidate Development
- Identify, attract, and engage both passive and active physician candidates through proactive outreach, including phone calls, email campaigns, social media, referrals, networking, and job boards.
- Deliver a high-touch, consultative candidate experience by understanding each physician’s career goals, motivations, and priorities.
- Conduct candidate interviews and screenings to assess qualifications, interest level, and overall fit.
- Evaluate candidate motivations, career drivers, and long-term alignment with client opportunities.
- Maintain accurate and timely candidate records, communications, and activity within Salesforce and other recruiting systems.
- Build and cultivate a network of physician candidates and healthcare industry contacts to support current and future search efforts.
Business Development
- Identify, engage, and develop relationships with prospective clients, including hospitals, health systems, and private practices.
- Conduct consistent outreach through calls, email, social media, networking, conferences, and other business development activities.
- Manage and maintain a pipeline of prospective clients within assigned territories and specialties.
- Collaborate with leadership, recruiting teams, locum tenens divisions, and marketing partners to maximize business development opportunities.
- Represent the organization with professionalism, credibility, and a consultative approach in all client interactions.
Search & Account Management
- Partner with clients to develop search strategies, establish compensation parameters, and define hiring timelines.
- Serve as the primary liaison between candidates, clients, and hiring stakeholders throughout the recruitment process.
- Provide regular communication and updates regarding search progress, candidate activity, and next steps.
- Stay informed on physician workforce trends, healthcare market dynamics, and recruitment best practices to support client and candidate success.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities through proactive outreach and networking.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent professional experience will be considered.
- 2+ years of recruiting experience, preferably in an agency, search, or staffing environment.
- Experience in healthcare recruiting or physician placement is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated success in sourcing, cold outreach, business development, and candidate engagement.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and influence decisions.
- Proven resilience, persistence, and the ability to effectively manage rejection.
- Strong active listening, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple searches and priorities simultaneously.
- Highly self-motivated with a strong internal drive to achieve goals and exceed expectations.
- Sales-oriented mindset with the ability to develop new business, influence decisions, and close placements.
- Public speaking, conference participation, or presentation experience is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive base salary plus uncapped commission. This is a performance-driven role with substantial earning potential for recruiters who consistently build relationships, generate business, and make placements.
