Excellent New England Practice in Picturesque Massachusetts City

A thriving healthcare system in New England is adding a fifth neurosurgeon to their group. The ideal candidate is a fellowship-trained spine surgeon capable of performing all aspects of spine surgery and care, including complex instrumented fusion and motion-preservation techniques. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in minimally invasive and lateral approaches to the spine, robotic-assisted surgery, and/or adult deformity. This is a perfect opportunity for someone seeking an established, highly collegial group, a great quality of life, and a beautiful place to live and work!

The healthcare system offers a comprehensive array of medical and surgical services to deliver top-notch care to residents and visitors, a coastal community that retains the charm of old New England while being a short drive from a major city. This is an integrated healthcare system composed of two acute care hospitals, six urgent care centers, a region-wide network of primary and specialty practices tied together seamlessly through a unified electronic medical record, EPIC.

As the only neurosurgery group in the area, the practice enjoys a wide variety of cases and an excellent referral base. It is a 260-bed hospital with state-of-the-art equipment including two Stealth image-guidance systems for cranial and spinal surgery, an O-arm, two Leica microscopes and intra-operative neuro-monitoring. The practice is supported by a formalized critical care department who staffs and maintains a presence within the intensive care unit 24 hours a day. The hospitalist system is robust. Additionally, the group is supported by a comprehensive cancer center affiliated with a major Cancer Institute that includes medical and radiation oncology. The Neuro-oncology tumor board meets biweekly. The group maintains very collegial relationships with the neurosurgical departments positioned at several world-renowned universities.

Practice Highlights:
• General neurosurgery call schedule is 1:5
• Competitive base salary with bonuses for both productivity and quality
• Case mix is 80:20 spinal to cranial
• 200-300 cases expected first year
• Current neurosurgeons do 1,100 surgical procedures/year
• Near entirety of external referrals are for cerebrovascular cases and spinal deformity
• Hospital has applied for Level 3 status
• Advanced practice providers: Two nurse practitioners, two physician assistants
• Daily presence of mid-level practitioner in the hospital Monday through Friday
• Seeking additional mid-level support to expand clinic access

This beautiful region is home to 15 towns alive with arts, culture, shopping, and a variety of outdoor activities. This popular coastal destination is known both for its family tourism, as well as retirement communities—and has a population that more than doubles in the summer season! It is located about 75 minutes from two major New England cities, and it retains its quaint, coastal atmosphere year-round. With access to some of the country’s best schools and universities, it is a wonderful place to raise a family!
